Join our Patwa Program Today!

Join our 40 hour, 13-week beginners online Patwa course to learn all the basics you need to understand and converse in Patwa. This course has been specially curated by Jamaican linguists for young people, based in the UK with Jamaican descent.

    • How to Introduce yourself

    • How to order food

    • How to ask for directions

    • Basic Grammar

    • 40 Hours of across 13 weeks

    • Two 1.5 hour lessons per week

    • Online class of 18 or less students

    • Supported by a Patwa Textbook to compliment your online learning

    • Interactive and relevant classes

    • Hybrid session, where you can come to a location with other students and learn in person (teach will be on screen)

    • Jamaican Games Nights with refreshments

    • Peer-led confidence boosting sessions

  • Our professional and high-qualified, expert teachers will consist of professors, academics and other linguists who form form the Caribbean Linguistics Consulting Service. The Caribbean Linguistics Consulting Service is heavily affiliated with the Jamaican Language Unit, University of West Indies, Mona (Jamaica Campus), most academics teach across both organisations.

    Learning any new language can be difficult. But learning a language that is often not treated like a language, and a language you have a connection to; brings its own challenges.

    Reconnect JA's team consists of young 2nd and 3rd generation Jamaicans, born and raised in the UK. Whilst the Caribbean Linguistics Consulting Team consists of expert linguists, who are have been teaching at University level for decades. They are also educating at world-leading Universities.

    Begin your journey reconnecting with Jamaican culture through language. Learn a skill that will stay with you for life and something you can pass on to the next generation.

  • Black History Month 24 - Respecting Patwa: its past, present and future

    TBC (But in October)

    Jamaican Patwa is often misunderstood. Is it a language? Is it a dialect? How was it formed? Should it be Jamaica’s Official Language?

    This event will help us all respect and understand Patwa as the legitimate language.

    We will explore its past, present and Patwa’s future use globally.
